Designed by Carl Bergsten and built in 1913-16, this pioneering building was funded from the estate of C.F. Liljevalch. Modern techniques were used to provide daylighting for the galleries. The independent sculpture hall and the succession of smaller galleries offer flexible solutions to exhibition design. Sculptor Carl Milles was engaged in The extension interacts with Liljevalch existing compact, closed body, reads its architecture and organization, and allows a contemporary sculpted imprint subscribe at the site.
